What Molybdenum Does
Molybdenum is an ultra-trace mineral that serves as a cofactor for enzymes involved in sulfur amino acid metabolism and the processing of certain toxins. It is needed in such tiny amounts that deficiency is virtually unknown in cats eating any reasonable diet. Molybdenum is present in small quantities in most foods and is efficiently absorbed from the intestines.
How Much?
Your cat needs only trace amounts of molybdenum, far less than 1mg per day. Any balanced commercial cat food or meat-based diet provides adequate molybdenum without supplementation.
Signs of Deficiency
Molybdenum deficiency has not been documented in cats under normal dietary conditions. It is only a theoretical concern in extreme experimental settings.
Signs of Excess
Excess is uncommon and not a practical concern. Very high molybdenum intake can interfere with copper absorption in some species, but this is irrelevant at normal dietary levels in cats.
